October needs to be kind of big here at Bent Country

Come October this blog will officially turn 10 years old. A decade of writing and posting here. Help me plan something. Leave comments to make suggestions. If I get no comments (which, of course, is possible) I'll just do a simple post or something. Maybe a picture of a kid blowing out 10 candles or something.

  1. OMG. Actually, not surprised. Time no longer dribbles, it dashes. Are there "selfies with sites"? I could do a selfie with your site (in the background of the photo). Or I could draw something on a pic of you and send it in (I like drawing). I also like reading out loud - could send an audio file of a favorite passage from one of your blogs. This last one appeals the most. Just spitballing here. Will do anything you suggest for my favorite blogger at the other end of the world. Best wishes from Berlin!

  2. ...here's another idea: what about inviting some people/friends to contribute a short piece for, say, a week or so before and/or after the momentous occasion? I'd be in. I feel inspired merely by the passing of time and by the passing of so many opportunities, both used and unused. Cheer on!

  3. Hi Marcus! Always so so glad to hear from you, my friend. I like all of these suggestions. I'd love some audio goodness from you. You've got that God Voice that is so fantastic. I'll never forget your reading of The Body Ricardo. Wow. So yes yes yes indeed, brother. That would be amazing. Also, anything else at all that you'd like to send my way will be shared immediately. And without question, your my favorite blogger and writer and just one of my favorite people. Thanks for this!

    1. Hey Sheldon! Thanks - will do. I have a few of your works still on my reading and to-review list. Not that I am really in that review business but I'm not teaching in September and what better way to use my spare time than on my favorite modern writer. (I'm knee deep in Henry James "Confidence" and almost done with Gardner's "Mickelsson's Ghosts" but both of these are not easy going or perhaps I'm just too old now to read anymore...unlike you. I prefer to listen to audio books now.) Reading your stuff: I'm only afraid it might be a bit strange because I really don't have the kind of accent that much of your writing seems to demand (seeing how well and firmly anchored in your native soil it is). But we'll all have to do our best with the chords that we've been given I suppose...later, cheers from Berlin!
